Camp of the True Queen, Glacia, Saturday Evening (Fandom Time)

After doing her rounds of the camp to see if anyone needed any healing or help she could offer, Raven retired to her tent. It was a little lonely now, since she'd shared it with Dinah and Momoko before they'd left to take care of tasks elsewhere, but she was used to solitude.

She settled in with the book she was reading, the second in something called "The Raven Cycle." How could she resist a title like that?

"It is only natural for her to be worried about harm befalling you," Raven said, frowning slightly. "But if you hide this from her, she will be more upset if she were to later find out."

Not that Raven would have any experience with that.

Momoko raised her eyebrows high. "Who says she has to find out?"

She bent to reach for her bag and rummaged a minute before retrieving a small saran-wrapped parcel. She held it out to Raven...

"Homemade zucchini bread! Jaime's mom made it! All yours if you please don't tell Karla? At least not how bad I was?"

"Thank you, it looks delicious," Raven said, accepting the bread.

"But, Momoko, I do not lie. If Karla asks me if you were hurt or how badly, I would have to tell her."

[heromaniac]

"You can't just lie a liiiiittle bit?" Momoko tried.

[trigons_child]

Stop trying to look so adorable, Momoko!

"I do not lie," Raven protested again. "Especially not to my friend and my Queen. But I will not volunteer the information, if you wish."

[heromaniac]

"Okaaaay," she sighed and gave in. "That will have to do. I just don't want her to get mad at me, too. I really did do my best, and I don't normally get injured as bad as that!"

She relaxed and nodded at the book. "Did I interrupt your reading?"

"I have only just started it," Raven said. "But do not consider yourself an interruption. A visit from a friend, particularly one in need of my aid, is never unwelcome."

[heromaniac]

"I'm glad you were reading and not asleep. I would have hated waking you," Momoko grinned. "And we both know I totally wouldn't have. And then everyone would have been mad at me."

"How come you're not? Mad at me, I mean."

[trigons_child]

"Because you came to me right away for healing and did not try to conceal your injuries," Raven said. "I am upset that you were hurt, but I am not angry with you. I assume whatever you were doing was necessary and helped people."

[heromaniac]

Eeeek! That earned Raven another hug!

"Thank you! It was! At least, I hope it was! It seemed like it at the time! That's what makes it so hard when people get mad at me for getting hurt - because it's never as important as what I had to do, you know?"

"Most of the time if someone is angry, they are angry that someone or something hurt you, or that they were not there to prevent it," Raven said, giving Momoko a warm hug back. "It is an emotional reaction to someone you love being hurt. If anyone becomes angry for you for this, it will pass."

"I know. But it just always makes me feel like people don't trust me. My judgment."

[trigons_child]

"If Karla did not trust you, she would not have asked you to join her Court," Raven said. She gave Momoko another squeeze. "If Dinah did not trust you, she would not have wanted to fight this or any other battle with you at her side. It is not a simple matter of trust. Sometimes worry and relief is expressed with anger. It is human nature."

"It's stupid." Momoko pouted. "I'd rather have hugs than angry lectures."

"You will always have hugs from me," Raven said. "So long as you promise to be careful and to come to me if you are hurt."

[heromaniac]

"If I'm hurt to the point I need healing," she compromised. "I really do heal fast on my own." And she was always careful, though no one would believe her if she said that.

"Though I'm totally not going to put any conditions on giving you hugs," she teased. "So nyah!"

"That is true," Raven said with a smile. "I should not put conditions upon hugging. I will also do so regardless."

[heromaniac]

Momoko's laugh was simple and happy. Something she hadn't felt in a while. "We're totally a pair, you know? I insist on being a hero no matter how much it hurts me, and you're the same with healing."

Raven leaned her head against Momoko's shoulder. "Then you must understand why I become upset when I am not allowed to heal. It is in our nature to help others no matter what the cost."

[heromaniac]

"It is. But that means we also know how far the other is going to go. And that we need to stop them if it's not right."

She sighed, fondly. "Like with this mission? I totally only got away with doing what I did because that Dinah doesn't know me as well as this one does. I'd never have almost died if she did."

Momoko would have been dragged from the pilot chair and shoved out the door, like as not, as soon as the button started flashing.

Healing was always right, shhhhh.

"But you did not die, and you are all right now, and that is what matters most," Raven said. "Though now that that Dinah knows you better, hopefully such a thing will not happen again, especially if you can learn from what happened to you."

[heromaniac]

Momoko nodded and gave Raven a thumbs-up. "I totally learned! Next time, check for an auto-destruct and bank harder to dump Dinah out all the way so I can jump earlier."

Did she mention the fact that she and Raven were alike?

Do as Raven says, Momoko, not as she does. Azar!

Raven side-eyed Momoko. "I hope you will not be in that kind of situation again," she said. Anything that involved an auto-destruct sounded bad.

"Me too. I don't like it when my mecha blow up." Momoko sighed. "Not that I'm sure I am gonna get any more work from Oracle, after this. People don't really like it when you blow things up instead of turning them in."
