Jonothon wasn't exactly much for dawdling, and so he swung by Raven's room not long after he figured she'd be getting home from work. Not directly after, because he figured she was going to want some time to get ready, but near enough. After all it wasn't as though he had to go to any great lengths to get himself ready for tonight.

What could he do? Toss on some fresh underwear, change his socks? Spike his hair? That was about the extent of it, really.

//Knock knock, luv.//

Jonothon's idea of getting ready for a date, therefore, was picking up the girl.

If his hair was spiked like the '98 annual, Jono, they were going to have to talk.

"Come in!" she called, satisfied with her appearance in the mirror and moving toward the door.

Well, no. Jonothon hadn't been having freakish vampire dreams lately, and so he was still sane enough to spike his hair subtly. He couldn't take anybody's eye out with it, this evening.

Jono, slightly-spiked hair and all, tried the doorknob, and then peered into the room.

//Evening, Sunshine,// he said, offering her as close to a smile as he ever had. //How was yer day?//

"Busy," she admitted, giving him a happy smile of her own. "I met with Professor Skywalker this morning, then had two classes, and then work. But I have been looking forward to this all day."

And all of yesterday, too. Hush.

Really, that was why Jono had suggested Tuesday. Waiting the entire week would have driven the both of them insane, right?

//That'd make two of us, then. I've only got one class on Tuesdays,// damn those cupcakes, //so I can't claim I was half as busy. But I was looking forward to this.//

He reached for her hand, leaned forward, and pictured a soft kiss against the back of her fingers.

Raven's smile grew, and she blushed slightly at the brush of lips against her hand. She squeezed his hand in return.

"You did not get into any more staring contests with paper cutouts today, did you?" she teased.

//None left t'stare at,// Jono replied, straightening up and attempting to look innocent.

It wasn't working so well. Jonothon didn't tend to look innocent even when he was, on that rare occasion.

//For some reason or other.//

It had been so, so satisfying, watching that thing burn.

Raven pressed a hand to her mouth to try to stifle a laugh.

"Then perhaps we had best be on our way before Ariel returns to the room and pouts at you," she suggested. Because she knew Jono had a weakness with wibbling and girl eyes. Not that she ever abused that.

He couldn't help it! It was part of his genes! His secondary mutation was a soft, squishy interior!

... Yes!

//I think that sounds like a wonderful plan,// Jono replied, giving her hand a light squeeze. //Aim for someplace where there are no people about, though. We don't want to frighten th'locals.//

Or, rather, he didn't want random folks on the street to start pointing and screaming anti-mutant slurs. That always had a horrible tendency to ruin a romantic evening.

Raven nodded, trying not to think too hard about how different it was in her world, where people with powers such as theirs weren't judged solely on the basis of having them.

"Of course," she said. "I will be able to sense people are near and adjust where we emerge so that we are not seen."

She stepped away to pick up her bag from the bed and sling it over one shoulder, then returned to slip her arms around Jono's neck. "Are you ready?" she asked.

Jonothon nodded, wrapping his arms around her waist and leaning his head forward to rest his forehead against hers.

//Of course, Sunshine.//

He had everything he needed for the evening. Mostly, he was holding it in his arms.

Raven teleported them from her room and across the dimensions to the one that was Jono's home. There were people about as Jono had warned her, so she chose a spot in an alley half a block away that she sensed was empty.

The burst of black smoke vanished quickly after they appeared. "We are here," she said, not letting go of Jono yet because did she have to?

Why in the world would she have to? If they were going to the concert together, they could make their way into the building tied up in knots to one another, for all it would matter to the other people going to the show.

//We are,// he agreed, lingering for a moment more, leaning in to think another kiss her way.

The novelty of being able to do that was never going to wear off.

She kissed him back with a soft sigh. "Did I mention I have been looking forward to spending this time with you?" she said.

Even with a loud concert and lots of people around, she could still slip him kisses with her gifts.

//In passing, I believe,// Jonothon replied, pulling back just enough to look her in the eye and work his way up to another smile. //Might have to say it a few more times before th'night is through.//

He laughed a little, then, slipping his arm around her shoulder and nodding toward the street.

"Take me to the music," Raven said happily, leaning against him.

She'd left her bag in the netherverse for now. That was for after the concert anyway.

Jonothon nodded, quite happy to lead Raven to where people were lining up, waiting for the doors to open.

//You'll enjoy this, I think. Have you seen any live music before? I mean, outside of anything from Fandom?//

"Lady Ghanima took us to a Trans-Siberian Orchestra concert for her Cultural Appreciation class," Raven recalled. "And to a Broadway show and a ballet as well. But those were the only times I have experienced musical performances off the island, other than when we saw the street performers in Gotham."

She could feel the excitement in the air as they joined the line and eagerly breathed it in. Being around so many strangers did make her a little nervous, but so long as she was with Jono she'd be fine.

Jonothon nodded again, about all he really could do to outwardly communicate once they'd stepped into the line. He didn't exactly want her to look completely insane, talking to herself, so he had to at least make an effort to look like he was just a very sedate mute, if nothing else.

//I think you'll find this t'be quite a different experience from any of those,// he noted. //This is a far cry from th'ballet, Sunshine.//

There will be no men in tights at this performance? Raven thought to him.

She was far too used to being able to talk freely to him in Fandom, but she did catch on quickly that they were now surrounded by people who didn't understand that kind of thing. She just had to remember now to think rather than speak any question that required a more complicated answer than yes or no.

Jono glanced her way, blinked, and then relaxed a little as he opened up his mind a little more, to encompass the both of them. A shield slammed up prety firmly beyond that, though. The last thing that he wanted was a barrage of thoughts from every overexcited teen in the line.

//Musicians tend to prefer to leave th'tights to the crime fighters, around here,// he replied. //We'll leave th'spandex to th'Fantastic Four, and make do with jeans, or at least flannel, in here.//

Even in his leather, Jono looked a bit more goth than most of the Bush fans in the crowd. That was fine by him, just so long as nobody took to staring. Which, so far, they weren't.
