Outside the dorms, Thursday evening

Raven was utterly exhausted when they'd returned via portal to Fandom. All she wanted was to get to her room and change clothes and -- wait, no, she wanted to see Jono first and tell him they were back safely. Then shower and change and sleep for several hours. But that wasn't going to happen right away.

Emma brushed past Raven, fully intent on getting a shower and then finding some sort of distraction. "We missed my film class, and couldn't stay long enough for me to miss Sherlock's class? Brilliant."

"Emma." Oh, Raven definitely needed to have a word with her first. "May I speak to you?"

"If I say no, are you just going to follow me and pout until I give in?" she asked bluntly. "Because there is a fountain of hot water calling my name, darling, and I'd like to wash a few people out of my brain."

She totally wouldn't pout. Really. "I wish to do the same, and I will not delay you long," she said. "I merely wished to tell you that while I understand why you did what you did to me, please do not do such a thing again. If you do, I will destroy you. You do not understand what you are dealing with."

She wasn't trying to be threatening. It was for Emma's own good!

"I do believe the relevant pop-culture term here is 'bitch, please," Emma replied, almost pleasantly. "You don't have enough of a backbone to do anything harmful to someone you know, and I'll do it again if you start throwing a tantrum like that again and put any of my friends at risk."

Raven shook her head. "I would never harm someone purposely," she agreed. "But what is inside me...that is a very different matter. I apologize for losing control, and I am trying to be better about such things, but I do not want you to endanger yourself in such a way."

Even if Emma was kinda mean when she was only trying to be nice.

Bullshit. Raven wasn't trying to be nice, she was trying to be superior and wouldn't even admit it to herself. Which in Emma's view was completely chickenshit.

"See, that's the thing," she said. "You're always trying to hold yourself back, and I'm not afraid to let myself go. So don't fret yourself on my account."

"Very well," Raven said with a tired sigh. She couldn't say she hadn't tried to warn her, and now she just wanted to go see Jono. "Then I hope you do not have cause to try such a thing again then." For her own safety. GOD, EMMA.

"Don't give me a reason, darling." That was a warning, and Emma made no bones about it. "And that includes with Jono."

Raven had wanted to just walk away, but that got her attention. "What about Jono?" she demanded.

Emma folded her arms. "What do you think?"

"I am not certain," Raven said. Trying to read Emma would just give herself a headache from banging up against her shields. "Are you attempting to insinuate that I might cause him harm? Are you protective of him?" She'd reacted in a similar way to Warren about Karla, after all.

"I'm saying he's on your mind an awful lot, isn't he?" she asked, her voice almost a purr. "Here's the thing; don't ever hold him back. Not like you did with Bobby."

"Jonothon can be astonishing. And you haven't seen me protective."

"He is," Raven said, slamming up her own shields as her eyes narrowed. "He is very special to me. And if he wishes me to, I would do the exact same thing I did for Bobby. And you cannot stop me, for either of them."

"Idealists are so cute," Emma said to the air. "So confident."

"I took on Jean without blinking twice, and you aren't even half of what she is. Do you really think you could stand in my way if I decided I wanted something? Anything? You aren't nearly ruthless enough."

"You have only glimpsed what is inside me," Raven said, a red gleam in her eyes as her anger rose. "You have no idea what I am capable of if that part of me is provoked, and you will not be able to stop me again as you did. You were only able to do so because I was unprepared. I know you are close to Karla and Sookie and I do not wish you any harm, but I will defend myself if you attempt to control me again."

"Undisciplined." Seriously, if Emma could get this much of a rise out of her already? "You might want to work on that."

"I have been," Raven said simply. "Which is why you are unharmed."

She hated losing her temper, but Emma was so unpleasant.

"I can hear you~" she caroled, wriggling her fingers at Raven with a smirk. "I'm not unpleasant, you just don't like it people don't coddle your emotional hang-ups, and you're pissy that you think I'm underestimating you."

Raven shook her head. "You are incorrect," she said, "though I think you will refuse to believe that. I can feel your arrogance, after all -- it is so very strong. But I do not care what you think of me." That wasn't entirely true, since she could feel her demon side's Pride raging to prove itself, but she clamped down on that and locked it away from Emma.

"And my 'emotional hang-ups,' as you wish to call them, are none of your concern," she added.

"If you keep trailing around after Jono like a puppy, they will be my concern," Emma pointed out.

"Of course I'm arrogant; I'm a Frost. It's as much of my DNA as my powers, and you're a liar if you think you don't care. You always care about what other people think. That's why you're still standing here talking to me."

"I am not doing any such thing," Raven said. "I care for Jono a great deal and he does for me as well." They had a date Saturday. So there. "And it is his choice if he wishes to spend time with me. You have nothing to say in that matter, just as you have no say if Bobby wishes my help to return to flesh."

"If at any point I feel you're keeping them emotional cripples so you can feel needed? So you can be validated? You are damn right I have a say in the matter, and I will say it loudly," Emma promised. "I'm their friend, and that's what I do."

"Now, you'll have to pardon me, darling, but my hair needs washing." And it would be more scintillating than conversing with the deliberately obtuse.

"You are not their friend," Raven said in a low voice. "You want to use them. You have no friendship in your heart, no compassion, just coldness and bitterness and hunger for power. And I will not allow you to twist them -- or Karla or Sookie or any you pretend to care for -- to suit your needs."

She turned away, then glanced over her shoulder. "I truly hope that one day you will learn the feelings you lack and loathe. Until then you truly live up to your name. Goodnight, Emma."

"Stick to healing, Raven. You aren't a very good empath." Emma gave her a brilliant smile. "This is pity and mild exasperation, in case you aren't sure."

"Sweet dreams."

"Then you are a terrible telepath," Raven said. "For you know nothing."

She walked away, really needing to find Jono now.
