The park to the causeway, Saturday night

Raven thought she didn't have any guests at graduation (though she had hoped a little that her mother would appear). It was a relief, since everyone else related to her tended to be evil, and since her dream about her brothers and her brush with her father, she'd felt especially wary.
After the ceremony, she'd wandered away to town and the park, seeking a relief from the strong emotions around her. The Pride was delicious, too much so, and she needed a break from it as well as all the anxieties about the future and happiness and love from visitors. That last she may have been a tiny bit envious of as well.
It felt good to relax, both her shields and herself, and she looked up at the night sky, wishing the clouds weren't in the way so she could see the stars.

Raven's stupid brother |
He'd been born Jesse, but he went by Envy now. And one of his powers, aside from the ability to manipulate another's feelings of jealousy, was to pluck from his target's mind the person they envied the most and take their form. In his half-sister's case, he was able to slip beneath her relaxed shielding and find Karla there. His brothers were waiting elsewhere, but he stepped from the shadows, shifting into her friend's shape1. "Raven," he called. |
Raven |
She turned toward the sound of Karla's voice and smiled. "Hello, Karla," she said. "I needed to get away from everyone else. You know how these large gatherings, particularly when centered about an emotional event, can be difficult for me." |
"Karla" (yeah right) |
"I know," he said. Because you're weak. He held out a hand to her. "Come with me. I have to show you something." |
Raven |
"What is it?" Raven said curiously. "Is something wrong?" But she didn't detect any distress from Karla. In fact, she wasn't sensing much at all, which made her brow furrow with concern. But she was tired from shielding out so many people and the violence in particular, so it didn't make her too alarmed. |
Totes Not Karla |
"No, nothing's wrong," "Karla" said, grabbing her hand. "It's a surprise. Come on!" |
Raven |
Raven let herself be led out of the park and down Apocalypse Ave (she hated that street name) to the causeway. "Will you give me a hint, at least?" she said, wondering what would take them away from the island. She stopped short as she saw the red eyes, two sets of four, come out of the darkness before them. Her brothers. Lust and Wrath, she recognized them as. Karla had let go of her hand, so she turned to grab her so she could teleport them back to the island and to safety. |
Jesse/Envy |
But Karla was gone, and Envy was there, dropping for form he'd assumed. "Hey, Sis," he said. "Think we'd miss your big day?" |
Raven |
"You will leave Fandom now," Raven said, fighting to keep calm. "You are not welcomed here." She knew it was pointless to demand that, however, particularly after what Dinah had told her. She'd hoped there was good in her brothers, but they'd all murdered her mothers and embraced what they were. |
Jacob/Lust |
"But we need your help for something," Jacob -- or Lust -- said, drawing closer. |
Raven |
"I will never give you aid," Raven said. She started to teleport herself away, but cried out in pain and crumpled to the ground instead as she felt her strength leeched out of her. Her brothers moved to stand over her as she struggled to push herself up. "What are you...what are you doing?" she gasped. |
Jared/Wrath |
"We are sired of the mighty Trigon," Jared -- or Wrath -- said, grinning. "We will reclaim our birthright now, with or without your consent." |
Jesse/Envy |
Blue-white light exploded from Raven's body, bathing her brothers before arcing to the side and forming a large oval of light. "You're the spark to open the portal," Jesse said triumphantly. "To return our father to this world." |
Raven |
"No!" Raven cried, shaking with pain, trying to somehow recall the energies back into her body. She could cross between worlds of her own power; her brothers, as far as she knew, couldn't. And now they were ripping that power out of her in order to open a portal to free Trigon. |
![]() Trigon |
Indeed, she could see Trigon standing in the portal now. "My sons...my progeny," he said. "I can feel the barrier between these two worlds weakening. I will cross over. At long last this world will be mine, with you to rule by my side." |
Raven |
No. She couldn't let that happen, not to this world, not to Fandom. She couldn't close the portal, but she had one card to play, one her brothers might not expect. They had the powers of Sin, but so did she, all of them. She reached into herself and found the unfamiliar taste of Greed and called it forth, releasing it at her brothers, praying to Azar that this worked. |
Raven's stupid brothers |
It did. "Sorry, Dad," Jacob said, intentions shifting now. "'By your side' wasn't part of our plan," Jared added. "No," Jesse said, "we thought we'd just take your power!" |
![]() Trigon |
Trigon howled in pain, doubling over and falling to his knees, still trapped on the other side of the portal. "Feel that!" Jacob said. "The power! It's ours!" "The portal," Trigon said weakly. "It's sealing. So weak...won't be able to enact the spell again for centuries. You have stolen from me...defeated me. You have made me proud...so proud. Flee, my boys. Learn how to brandish your new power before you make war." The portal vanished, and Jacob, Jared, and Jesse were gone with it. |
Raven |
Raven lay panting on the ground. The pain had stopped, and she felt a sense of triumph even though her brothers had gotten away. They thought they'd done what they wanted. They thought they'd defeated her by stealing their father's power. Except she knew from her previous encounter with him in her mind that his power was nothing like it had used to be. What her brothers had stolen had been virtually nothing. Worthless. Their celebration would be short-lived once they realized that. She started to laugh, but a wave of sickness cut off her amusement. She rolled over and managed to push herself up to her hands and knees before throwing up everything she'd eaten that day2. Finding the strength to crawl a short distance away, she flopped back down to the ground. She had to get up. She had to get back to the island and find Karla or Anakin or Dinah or Jono and tell them what had happened. But no, she was just going to lay here for several minutes before trying to teleport back to the dorms. Maybe her stomach would stop churning then. |
