Raven was on her bed, sitting against the wall and reading while listening to the CD Hurley had made for her. She decided that she really liked Kitaro and might have to find more of his music.

The door was open.

Didi didn't especially want to do this, but she figured she should probably check in with Raven before too much time went past.

"Hi," she said from the doorway. "I like this song."

Raven wasn't particularly looking forward to it either, but the odds of a memory plague hitting the island and selectively making everyone forget what she'd done were...well, not non-existent, given this was Fandom, but fairly slim nonetheless. "Hello, Didi," she said. "Come in. It is quite lovely, is it not? Very peaceful."

That was the thing about Fandom. Memory plagues never arrived when they were convenient.

"Peaceful," Didi agreed, coming in and plopping down at the opposite end of the bed. "So ... how has your week been?"

Raven set aside her book. "Uncomfortable," she admitted. "I am so sorry, Didi. I truly did not mean to do what I did to you and Jono."

Didi hadn't expected Raven to get to the point so quickly, and she swallowed once before she could speak.

"I can't say it's all right," she said, "but I believe it wasn't on purpose. You're strong." Human magics normally didn't quite work on the Endless, even in human guise. "... you know, I was ready to let him go to you, if that was what he wanted."

Raven hated how the awful twisting in her stomach she'd been feeling all week seemed to get worse. "I did not know that I was using my powers on others," she said softly. "I was projecting my own desires, and they were affecting those around me. Lady Aphrodite felt it and made me realize what I was doing. I promise it will not happen again."

Okay, so maybe she was a little impressed with herself that she'd managed to affect one of the Endless.

Didi frowned a little. "You don't -- I mean, I'd be flattered, but I didn't know you thought about me that way."

She may have missed the point.

"No, it was not like that," Raven said quickly, blushing a little. "I do care for you as a friend, but for the most part, my gifts did not seek out anyone specifically. It seemed to affect people at random to fulfill my wish for affection." There'd been one exception to that, but there would have been no way she would've targeted Katchoo of all people, unconsciously or not.

Didi relaxed, nodding as she heard that. "Okay. Not that it would be horrible or anything, but that -- makes things easier."

She looked at Raven curiously. "... I have to say, usually human magics don't work that well on me. Somebody tried a compulsion spell in class once and I laughed. Is it something you learned in Azarath?" Her tone held only friendship.

Raven shook her head. "I was born with my empathic gifts. My mother has some small ability, but nothing like mine -- she can sense strong emotions, but not affect them. I think it is something I inherited...from my father's side."

He had had to ask which room was Raven's, but Leto figured it was time that he had a talk with her. Knocking on the open door and waiting for her to respond, Leto couldn't help feeling relieved that none of the feelings from Sunday returned when he saw her.

The open door made hiding difficult, which probably was one of the reasons she'd left it that way.

Raven looked up at the knock. "Hello, Leto," she said. Awwwwwkward. "Please, come in."

He entered the room, still a little cautious. "Raven," he said. "I assume you know why I'm here."

Didi hesitated, considering asking. It was novel to have to ask; she could tap into the part of herself that was Death and know.

But doing that seemed rude.

"Your father's side," she said. "Okay. Gotcha. I have weird relatives too. And it sounds like you're already beating yourself up over this."

"Because you felt something that is no longer there," Raven said. She dropped her gaze. "I am sorry, it was my doing, though I was unaware that I was doing it at the time. I swear I would never knowingly manipulate another in such a way."

"I have been learning to shield myself from other's emotions so they do not affect me," Raven said, nodding. "But I did not realize that I must also shield others from my own feelings. I am ashamed that I manipulated others, and even moreso that I tried to come between you and Jono. I did not even know that you were involved, or I never would have kissed him."

Maybe.

There she was, nodding along, when Raven said the thing about kissing Jono.

For the slightest instant, Didi might have happily slaughtered them both.

"... he kind of forgot to mention that part."

She was doing her best to sound calm; it might have even worked.

"He never would have done so were it not for my powers," Raven said. "I made him do it." She hated how awful that sounded.

Didi had buried her face in her hands -- busy hands were less likely to do something she'd regret -- and peeked up at Raven.

"It took me about a month to get him to touch me at all," she said wryly. "I've never tried ... how did you even do that?" Physically, she meant.

"Your doing?" He frowned and his voice hardened. Leto had assumed that Raven hadn't caused what he had felt, as her response had been one of surprise. "How? Why?"

Raven bit her lip, reluctant to upset Didi further. "I told him to close his eyes, and then I imagined kissing him and projected the sensation at him," she said. "Please do not be angry with him. It was all my doing, I am the one who asked him."

She flinched a little at his tone. "I was not aware that I was projecting a desire for affection on to those around me," she said, twisting her hands in her lap. "I had no idea I was compelling others to have unnatural feelings for me until Lady Aphrodite realized what I was doing. I will never let such a thing happen again, for I know it is terribly wrong."

"But he didn't tell me." Didi was resigned, and ready for A Talk with Jono. "I'm not mad at you. You weren't in control -- not all the way, anyhow."

[future_sandworm]

"Yes. Yes, it is." Leto watched her, knowing that she was telling the truth - she hadn't known. "And how were you able to do this?"

He was still wary, and anger was just below the surface.

"I do not want to cause any problems between you two," Raven said. "I feel awful about what I did."
