Probably to absolutely no one's surprise, Raven had amassed herself a small army of love monkeys, which were now snuggled up with her on her bed as she used her laptop to catch up on Rumor Gal episodes and gossip and speculation. Priorities, people. Priorities.

She wrinkled her nose at the comments on one blog post and glanced down at the love monkey that had claimed her lap. "I do very much prefer it when Charlie and Claire are together," she told it, "for I think they are truly meant for each other, but I do not understand how heated these 'shipping wars' get. It seems so unpleasant and unhealthy to invest so much anger and energy in the lives and relationships of fictional people."

The love monkey squeaked in agreement. Or maybe it was just asking for another hug. Or maybe it was secretly a Claire/David shipper and just didn't want to start an argument.

Jono actually seemed kind of pleased with himself, right about then. He'd made his way up a whole flight of stairs, had initiated conversation, and had asked his girlfriend to the dance. To the dance!

... This was kind of like a red-letter day, for him. On top of his asking Cable for help controlling his powers, he was starting to feel halfway human again. It was a nice change of pace.

//I'll see you tomorrow, then,// he replied. And then relocated a monkey that had been trying to get amorous with his leg. Gently. With the business end of his boot.

Gently.

It had been awhile since Karla had seen Raven outside of class, so a little before she had to leave for Gotham, she decided to check in on her friend and see if everything was okay.

...Also, she hadn't heard anything about Raven watching Rumor Gal on Monday and was a little concerned.

"Kiss kiss," she called, poking her head into Raven's room. "Can I come in?"

"I have managed to convince them not to try that any more with me, that snuggles are fine, however," Raven said with a look of dismay. "Unfortunately I do not believe they think that rule applies to everyone else. Baby J! Stop that!"

Yes, she'd named them after Rumor Gal characters.

"I cannot wait," Raven said happily, then gave the monkey a pointed what-did-I-tell-you-about-that look. No humping the boyfriend's leg. Not allowed!

Raven looked up from her laptop, where she'd switched to browsing for dresses. "Hello, Karla, come in," she said. "I was just thinking of calling you."

One of the monkeys launched itself from the bed toward Karla's legs. New legs! New legs!

"Really?" Karla asked. "What--ack!"

She looked down at the monkey that was now clinging to her leg and chittering happily. "Uhhh, is this a friend of yours?"

"They have been appearing all over the dorms," Raven said. "And they have become very attached to me." Literally, in fact, as she disentangled one from her hair.

Baby J seemed to have hit a stride and showed no intention of stopping any time soon.

"Er, maybe we should just let her ride it out..."

"She is very rebellious," Raven said helplessly. "Hopefully she will become tired soon."

In the meantime she would facepalm and blush. She debated trying to use her powers to calm Baby J's desire, but she was really afraid of any awkwardness that might result should she be momentarily overcome by it.

"So I can tell," Karla said, bending over to pick the little creature up. "I must have missed them so far."

Hugging the little monkey to stave off unpleasant thoughts as to why other monkeys might have been avoiding her, she took a seat next to Raven on the bed. "What're you looking at?"

"Dresses for the Valentine's dance," Raven said, turning the laptop to show Karla the screen. "Jono just asked me to go to the dance with him. I was not expecting he would wish to go, but...."

Yes, she had a goofy smile.

"Nice," Karla said, trying to squash down a flare of envy. "It drapes so prettily. I'm glad he asked you," she added, lamely.

Raven frowned and closed the laptop. "Are things any better with you and Warren?" she asked quietly.

"Man, she's really going to to--" But Ariel stopped herself, shaking her head and trying to focus her attention on something other than the monkey who seemed very in love with her legs.

To be fair, they were pretty awesome legs.

"Err, so, any big plans for Valentine's Day, Raven?" she asked, making sure it sounded like just a nonchalant subject change and not at all a convenient way to find out how things might be going between her and Jono.

Karla shrugged briefly. Then shook her head. "I don't think so," she said quietly. "We went to the zoo with Katniss and Wesley and everything was all over awkward."

Not even because of her cookies!

"I'm not sure we're going to the dance," she admitted.

Raven shook her head. "I do not have any," she said quietly, because Jono had totally pinged after Ariel. "I am uncertain if I will go to the dance or not."

Raven slid her arm around Karla's back and leaned against her shoulder. "It may have been awkward, but it was something at least?" she said, feeling helpless. "He is not avoiding you completely."

"Oh, you have to go to the dance!" Ariel said eagerly. "I mean, unless you have other plans with someone else, otherwise you have no reason not to go. You know?"

"Perhaps if it were not a Valentine's Day dance," Raven fretted. "It is a night dedicated to love and romance. I do not think I would be comfortable going by myself."

"Pffffft!" said Ariel, eloquently, waving her hand. "I'm going by myself. If it's a night dedicated to love, well, then, I love having fun, and so there we go, that's all I need. I'm going with fun as my date."

"I do not know if I can bear to be surrounded by so many happy couples," Raven admitted. "I am pleased for them, of course, but...." She was worried she'd become jealous.

With a response like that, Ariel was just going to stare at Raven for a second before folding her arms in front of her and arching her eyebrow with her best Did you honestly just say what I thought you just said? look.

Because seriously.

"Maybe not," Karla said, dropping her cheek onto Raven's hair. "But it still hurts. We're just so...distant. Like he's not sure if he wants to talk to me or not. I really don't know if he's going to be able to forgive me. Same with Bobby."

"...what?" Raven said, fidgeting with a monkey that was trying to crawl under her skirts.

"He needs time," Raven said, hugging Karla close. "I know it is hard to not be impatient" -- Azar knew she struggled with that -- "but he has not told you he wishes to never be with you again. Which means that despite all that has happened he still wants to be with you."
