trigons_child: (Serious Raven is serious)
Raven had asked Hannibal to accompany her to the orphanages she was inspecting today as a way to distract him from his recent troubles. Immersing herself in the welfare of others also helped distract herself from the same, of course, so the trip had a double purpose. Well, triple, since she was very dedicate to her duty of making sure the children of Glacia were well cared for.

There were three orphanages on her agenda for today, two to the north of Sidra, and one to the southwest. She was most concerned about the third, since it was in a province that had been deeply loyal to Hobart, and she had little doubt that many of the aristos there had little care for orphaned children, particularly landen ones. But perhaps she was just being pessimistic and all would be well.

Yeah, right.

[For le cannibal. Warning: dark themes ahead (this is Kaeleer, after all). And the third thread is going nsfw, la.]

Raven retreated to a private room once they returned to the Hall. She was still shaken by what had happened to her when Jaenelle had killed all the Jhinka. It was more than her inner demon struggling to be free. She'd felt her father there as if he was one with her, egging her on to accept the dark mantle of her power. And she'd been so close, too close to accepting it.

So now she hid, unwilling to face anyone after what she'd almost done.

Little did she know the day was going to get worse. )

trigons_child: (Interested)
Raven had rested in her room at the dorms for a short time until she felt strong enough to make the walk back to the campsite. The healing had taken a lot of out of her, and the pain was still working its way out of her system, but she didn't care. The weather was warm and pleasant and if she were any more giddy with joy she would've been singing to the forest animals.

The walk took her longer than normal (in part because she was still so drained, but also because she had to pause and smile at every flower and every butterfly and every woodland creature she saw), and when she reached her cabin, she was tired enough again that she just settled on one of the couches of the common area, happy enough to just sit there and bask in the afterglow, absolutely radiant with joy.

To say Raven was confused would be an understatement.

After spending a week dealing with the effects the other Fandom and dying there, she was slowly starting to feel better -- or at least better at compartmentalizing and denying. Talking to Karla, Anakin, and even Max had helped a great deal. Then Chuck had been so nice about wanting to make her feel better. She'd told Anakin that she thought it wise that she back off from experiencing emotions, and he had agreed, but she wanted so much to balance out the awfulness she had experienced with something good, and love was very very good.

What she had experienced with Chuck had been wonderful and amazing, everything and nothing like she had imagined it would be. But when it was over, he had brusquely told her that there were things he needed to do, and she had to leave. There had been nothing more she wanted at that moment than to stay there with him, but she was not familiar with what was customary, so she did as Chuck wished, even if it hurt.

She'd done the walk of shame returned to her room and curled on her bed, unable to sleep with all the thoughts in her head. Now that she'd tasted love, she wanted more. (The fact that it wasn't love, but sex? Totally beyond her.) Chuck loved her, and she wanted so much now to make him happy, but she wasn't sure what she should do. Maybe Joan would have advice for her. The thought of looking through some of the books in Aphrodite's store also occurred to her, but she wasn't sure she was up for that yet.

Raven was feeling somewhat better after speaking to Anakin the day before (and the muffins had helped, too). She decided to take advantage of the pleasant weather to go outside and soak in the sunshine, choosing a quiet corner of the park today instead of the preserve as a place to find peace and meditate.

trigons_child: (Trying not to cry)
After Raven had fled from Liir when he and the others had begun to awaken, she hadn't known where to go. She was drawn first to the place Max had taken her in the other Fandom -- 29 Chimera Court -- and for a moment she was filled with rage and despair again, along with the urge to tear the building down with her bare hands. But it was obvious it was someone else's home now, so she fled again, teleporting herself to the place where she had died.

There was nothing to mark the place, of course, but she just knew. Kneeling, she touched her hand to the ground. She held no blame for Anakin for striking her down; he had to, or she might have killed him and others in the dorms. She had lost control, like Azar had always warned her could happen. Her teacher had only done what he had to do to stop her.

It would be easier if she could just say it was her other self who was responsible, but it had been she who lost control. She had used her gifts against Tahiri, and then the vampires who tried to attack her and Anakin. She had taken pleasure from pain -- both giving and receiving. She was her father's daughter.

Raven screamed, unable to contain the raging emotions she was trying to keep inside herself, then covered her face in her hands, shaking with silent sobs.

[ooc: Technically open, but she is not likely to talk to anyone she doesn't know, and she's in a verrry bad place. Because I am cruel, and because you cannot spell demon without "emo." If anyone body is looking for her, she's probably sending up an unintentional beacon.]

trigons_child: (Sleeping)
In the small alcove she called home for now, Raven tossed and turned in her sleep, caught in another nightmare.

She fled from her father, scrambling to scale the rocks around her. Risking a glance over her shoulder, she saw Trigon, red-skinned and terrible, over a hundred feet tall, standing laughing among the lightning-drenched cosmos. He raised his staff, bringing it down upon the rocky bridge where Raven crouched, shattering the stone so that she began to fall.

"Trigon, why are you doing this to me? Why are you trying to kill your daughter?" Raven pleaded as she plummeted through the skies. "Don't you understand, I am part of you! And you are a part of me that I have spent a lifetime trying to submerge. Speak to me, Trigon! Why do you want to kill your only living child?"

Something broke her fall -- a giant hand. It belonged to her human mother, Arella, who somehow was as large as Trigon now. "My daughter, you will not die. I will not permit it," she said soothingly.

"Mother?!" Raven cried, scrambling to rise to her knees upon her mother's palm, reaching up to her. "Thank Azar! He wants me dead!"

"No, my loving Raven, not dead," Arella said. "He simply wants that part of your soul that is rightfully his. And I fear, my child, that not one of us can stop him." She began to laugh, though it sounded much like Trigon's laugh, as the flesh of her face began to melt away, turning her head into a grinning skull.

"No! No! Mother, not you!" Raven said as the monstrous vision of her mother turned her hand and dropped Raven through the air once again. She managed to catch hold of a rocky ledge, stopping her fall for now. Her father drew closer. "There is no way to resist him, and yet, how can I let him claim my soul?" she said. "Once Trigon possesses me, his power will be infinite! He will be complete again -- whole again! No! I must fight him with ever fibre of my being!"

Her Soul-Self, in the form of a giant shadowy raven, rose from her body and flew toward Trigon. "Let my Soul-Self fly free and let his own power be his undoing!" Raven vowed, willing it to envelop his father. "I resist you, Father, and even more, I will defeat you!"

Trigon's laughter continued to echo across the skies, even as Raven's Soul-Self began to shudder and change. It glowed red and gold, taking on the shape of her father, then shattered into thousands of pieces.

Raven screamed in agony and fear. "No! Azar, no!"
She bolted upright on her bed, still screaming.

For someone unaccustomed to owning a phone, let alone voice mail, having a message waiting when she returned from her weekly meeting with Professor Skywalker was a new experience for Raven. She was nervous yet pleased to find she had been assigned a job in town. Joan had suggested she get a job so that she would have money to do things that normal girls did, but she had no idea how to go about finding one. Apparently the school made the process easier by assigning students to jobs, which was the only explanation as to why Ms. Blue had called her.

She was not certain what 'Dite's Decadent Delights was -- it sounded like a candy store, or perhaps a pastry shop. She would have to go see Ms. Blue and find out what her duties would be before Tuesday. Having money would be nice, though she was not sure what she would spend it on. New candles and incense, or perhaps some books. She was loathe to expand her wardrobe beyond the identical simple black dresses she owned. Colors were almost as terrifying as her father.

Between the new job and the meeting of the Magic Reserves yesterday, things seemed to be going well. Now if only she could figure out how to solve a problem like Tahiri....

Establishy, but open if anyone wants to poke the empath not dirty.
