After storming out on Dinah and Momoko the night before, Raven had retreated to the netherverse, but she found little solace there from the chaos of her emotions. It wasn't like it had been with her father trying to influence her. That she had known was wrong, and she'd fought it as hard as she could. This was more subtle and insidious, as Eric preyed on her own desire for affection and acceptance.

She knew Dinah and Momoko would never hurt her. But neither would Eric. He couldn't be fooling her empathy, could he? Desperate for answers -- and comfort -- she went directly to Eric's apartment once she emerged from the netherverse.

[For those who know who they are. Warning: extremely dubious consent issues. Also imminent but well-deserved violence.]

Raven was nervous about her not-date with Eric, particularly after he appeared at her dorm room door with a bouquet of roses for her. She could sense his obvious interest in her, of course, and she didn't want to give him a false impression of hers. But her thoughts of that faded when she saw the fancy vegetarian restaurant he brought her to for dinner. "How did you know I was a vegetarian?" she asked, pleased with his selection. "I do not remember telling you that."

Eric smirked. "You are? I'm one, too, and this place has got a lot of great dishes. It's one of my favorites."

"Really?" Raven said, surprised. "I would not have guessed that. Most of my friends are not vegetarians."

He made a face. "Sometimes I think about goin' all the way, goin' vegan, but I don't know if I can do that. But eatin' meat, yuck." He gave an exaggerated shudder.

Raven couldn't help but smile at that. She didn't at all begrudge her friends who enjoyed eating meat, but it was refreshing to dine with someone who shared her aversion to it for a change. "I was raised a vegetarian," she said, "but milk and eggs and cheese were not forbidden." Leather hadn't exactly been common in Azarath, either -- she'd developed that weakness in Fandom, and sometimes had to wrestle with her conscience about it.

"C'mon, babe," Eric said, taking her arm and escorting her through the door. "Anything you want tonight, it's yours."

[Continued in the comments. Emotional manipulation, ahoy!]

Since Karla and Warren were away and a return to Kaeleer wasn't imminent, and Fandom wasn't being invaded or transformed or infected, Raven decided to take advantage of the time to pay a visit to her mother in Gotham. She had seen Arella infrequently since her restoration at Sebastian's hands, and each time it had felt strained and awkward. But she kept trying to close the distance between them. For most of her life in Azarath Arella had been forbidden to see her for fear of creating a maternal bond and the emotions that would result. Azar had been wrong; true, negative emotions were dangerous, for anger and fear fed her demon side, but others, like the love she bore for her friends, made her stronger. And now she wanted the mother's love she'd long been denied.

It didn't go well. )

[ooc: Dialogue swiped from The New Titans #67, because Raven is never allowed to be happy or something. Seriously, in rapid succession her mother abandoned her, she got bit by a wererat thing and temporarily went evil (again), she had an evil robot boyfriend who tried to coerce her into sleeping with him so he could eat her soul, and then she was tricked into trying to heal "the most insane man on earth" so she could be incapacitated and kidnapped and strapped down naked with the rest of the Titans for a freakin' YEAR before finally dying (again) in the LAMEST plot ever only to come back evil (again) wearing tiny strips of black leather so she could interrupt Starfire and Nightwing's wedding by smooching the bride and knocking her up (with herself) but I am not bitter really and totally ignoring most of that. GOD, CANON. Ahem.]

Raven had quietly left Fandom on Sunday, just needing to put some distance between her and what had happened at 'Dite's. She decided to visit Gotham, the city her mother had once called home, because as a connection to her mother, it was a connection to her humanity, something she sorely needed to remind herself of.

She spent a few days just familiarizing herself with the city. She was almost temped to seek out her human grandparents, but from what little Arella had told her, she knew that would probably be an unpleasant encounter.

Late Wednesday evening she found herself drawn to a quiet church. The pews were empty, and the door was been locked. But sealed portals were no barrier to her dimension-traveling powers. She wanted to be alone, to think and contemplate who she was, and even more so, why she was. And this church, although alien to the one she was raised in the dimension-tossed land of Azarath, was still a place conducive to such thought and to such prayer.

It wouldn't last. )

[OOC: Canon adapted from The New Teen Titans #30 and #31. In reality, Raven lost it on the Brotherhood and had to hug it out with Wonder Girl. Warnings for painful canon dialogue and text, really bad accents, and badly dressed villains. NFB and NFI due to distance, but OOC is always welcome.]
