trigons_child: (Studying)
The good thing about not declaring at major at Gotham University meant Raven could pretty much take any course that caught her eye. This morning she had "Charms, Rituals and Speech Acts: Theories of Magic in Performance," and she settled in for the lecture, welcoming something to focus on other than Fandom and Triela (and the headache she'd gotten from shielding out all the drunken partying in the dorms last night for some sort of sporting event -- she'd been so terribly confused at first at people hollering out her name).

The room was large enough to allow her to sit by herself as she generally preferred, and she was surprised when someone actually sat down right next to her. And even more surprised when the person said, "Hey, gorgeous."

Raven glanced up from her notes. The owner of the voice was someone she'd seen in class before, usually cozied up to another female student. He looked to be a few years older than her, a senior perhaps, with dark hair that reached his shoulders and blue eyes that -- and she'd tell herself she was silly for thinking that later -- for a moment seemed to see right into her soul. "Hello," she said, unable to help but blush a little.

"You always look like you take good notes," he said, grinning at her. "I missed the last class because I was sick. Can I borrow yours and copy them?"

She had to fight an instinctive urge to ask him if he wanted her to heal away any lingering illness. No one at Gotham University but Dinah knew she could do that. "My notes? I -- yes, of course, I would be happy to assist you in learning what you missed," she said.

"Is that an offer to tutor me?" he said, grin growing. "Because I don't know if I'd be able to focus on studying with someone as hot as you teaching me."

Raven blushed even more and ducked her head, focusing on flipping through her notes to hide the redness of her cheeks. "I believe this is what you require," she said, pulling out what she'd written down during the last lecture. "Please return them to me at our next class."

"Sure, thanks, babe," he said. "Your name's Raven, right?" At her nod, he caught one of her hands in his and lifted it to his lips. "Eric Forrester," he said, kissing the back of her fingers.

"It is nice to meet you," Raven said, flustered by his attention as she pulled her hand back. She was relieved when he got up and moved to another seat a few rows behind her. Then the professor began class, and she put it all out of her mind.

Since Karla and Warren were away and a return to Kaeleer wasn't imminent, and Fandom wasn't being invaded or transformed or infected, Raven decided to take advantage of the time to pay a visit to her mother in Gotham. She had seen Arella infrequently since her restoration at Sebastian's hands, and each time it had felt strained and awkward. But she kept trying to close the distance between them. For most of her life in Azarath Arella had been forbidden to see her for fear of creating a maternal bond and the emotions that would result. Azar had been wrong; true, negative emotions were dangerous, for anger and fear fed her demon side, but others, like the love she bore for her friends, made her stronger. And now she wanted the mother's love she'd long been denied.

It didn't go well. )

[ooc: Dialogue swiped from The New Titans #67, because Raven is never allowed to be happy or something. Seriously, in rapid succession her mother abandoned her, she got bit by a wererat thing and temporarily went evil (again), she had an evil robot boyfriend who tried to coerce her into sleeping with him so he could eat her soul, and then she was tricked into trying to heal "the most insane man on earth" so she could be incapacitated and kidnapped and strapped down naked with the rest of the Titans for a freakin' YEAR before finally dying (again) in the LAMEST plot ever only to come back evil (again) wearing tiny strips of black leather so she could interrupt Starfire and Nightwing's wedding by smooching the bride and knocking her up (with herself) but I am not bitter really and totally ignoring most of that. GOD, CANON. Ahem.]

trigons_child: (Red eyed)
Raven had quietly left Fandom on Sunday, just needing to put some distance between her and what had happened at 'Dite's. She decided to visit Gotham, the city her mother had once called home, because as a connection to her mother, it was a connection to her humanity, something she sorely needed to remind herself of.

She spent a few days just familiarizing herself with the city. She was almost temped to seek out her human grandparents, but from what little Arella had told her, she knew that would probably be an unpleasant encounter.

Late Wednesday evening she found herself drawn to a quiet church. The pews were empty, and the door was been locked. But sealed portals were no barrier to her dimension-traveling powers. She wanted to be alone, to think and contemplate who she was, and even more so, why she was. And this church, although alien to the one she was raised in the dimension-tossed land of Azarath, was still a place conducive to such thought and to such prayer.

It wouldn't last. )

[OOC: Canon adapted from The New Teen Titans #30 and #31. In reality, Raven lost it on the Brotherhood and had to hug it out with Wonder Girl. Warnings for painful canon dialogue and text, really bad accents, and badly dressed villains. NFB and NFI due to distance, but OOC is always welcome.]

trigons_child: (Soul-Self - Upset)
After classes, Raven returned to her room, lit some candles and incense, and settled cross-legged on her bed to meditate, as she was wont to do in the evenings.

The shadowy raven form of her Soul-Self rose from her body, phasing through the wall and out into the air above Fandom. She lazily circled the island, enjoying the freedom of flight, then decided to push herself and travel across the causeway to the mainland, where she could observe the city below (and not panic anyone since her Soul-Self was virtually invisible in the darkened sky). A surge of emotion caught her attention, and she traced it to a building surrounded by the flashing blue lights of police cars. An officer was on a megaphone, ordering those inside to lay down their weapons and surrender, as a panicked voice in the crowd behind them cried out, "They have a bomb!"

There were people inside the building. She could feel their fear and anger and knew they were being held against their will, yet there were others filled with a thirst for violence. For a moment she wondered if she should let the police do their work, but if there really were explosives involved, there was not much time, and she could not watch idly while lives were lost. Silently her Soul-Self moved through the roof of the building, seeking out those inside.

Of course this wouldn't go easy. )

She'd worry about it later. It was almost time for Rumor Gal.

[OOC: Totally lifted from The New Teen Titans, Vol. 2, No. 8, "A Day In The Lives," some of the dialogue/descriptions verbatim, with allowances for Fandom and retcons. Retcons? In my canon? They're more likely than you think. Open if anyone cares to come by after Raven reconstituted herself, otherwise ooc is welcome.]
